The Hearth Matters Series
A chapbook + audiobook series on how to rethink, revalue and reinvent home and hearth in the 21st century.
Welcome to our Hearth Matters Chapbook Series. Eventually these short stories will find their way into a ‘real’ book, but for now we think these little chapbooks are a fun and easy way to convey big ideas.
Although these days, this format is mostly used for illustrated poetry, chapbooks date all the way back to the 16th century where they were used for grassroots storytelling. Inexpensive to print, they were a popular way to spread new ideas among the people. Writers on a budget also utilized this format to print and sell one chapter at a time.
Our digital version embraces the spirit of this tradition and merges it with the storytelling technology of the information age. We hope you enjoy reading our chapbooks as much as we enjoyed creating them!
Our series introduction, Hearthstory, explores this question: In our relentless pursuit of progress, have we inadvertently dimmed the flame and forgotten the pivotal role that home and hearth play in nourishing the human family? And if so, how do we find our way home?
Part II, Householder Feminism, examines current feminist narratives and introduces householder feminism as a movement that champions householders and drives meaningful change in the domestic sphere.
In Part III, Domesteconomy, we present our big idea for how we might reinvent 'home’ with a 21st century cottage economy that reunites work and home and prioritizes human flourishing.
